WHAT IS THE OTHER 40%?

Positive psychology researchers tell us that we may actually already possess the tools necessary to be our own 'personal game changers'.

One particular conceptual framework in the field of positive psychology, proposed by Dr. Sonja Lyubomirsky and her colleagues, became the catalyst for my interest.  The researchers proposed that our happiness levels are comprised of three factors; 1) genetic set point;  2.) life circumstances; and 3.) intentional activity.

1. Genetic set point (50%) fixed at birth and thought to be stable over time, immune to influence or control;

2. Life circumstances (10%) the good or bad things that 'happen to us' in living; and

3. Intentional activity (40%) actions or exercises that require some degree of daily personal effort.

Although we don't have control over genetic set point and life cirucumstances, the third factor, intentional activity, is arguably the most hopeful and promising means for altering our perspectives and course.  Please take a few minutes to see how I can help you to maximize your inherent strengths and navigate the other 40%.

VIA SURVEY OF CHARACTER STRENGTHS

While we are keenly aware of our shortcomings, we don't always take enough time to focus on our strengths. If I were to ask what your top 5 strengths were, how would you answer?

The VIA Survey is a psychometrically validated personality test that measures an individual’s character strengths. Character strengths are viewed as our positive personality in that they are our core capacities for thinking, feeling, and behaving in ways that can bring benefit to us and others.

Research done by the VIA Institute revealed that people who use their strengths are more likely to have a better quality of life. Take the VIA so you'll know your answer!
